Richard Steiner and his S600 provide breathtaking aerobatics
Spectators experience breathtaking aerobatics in Richard Steiner’s show acts. The Aichkirchen-born Richard Steiner always manages to astound spectators with his stunts. His S600- of which there are only four aircraft in the world- can perform utterly unique stunt manoeuvres. The 45-degree spins with a roll rate of 400 degrees per second, or hanging on the propeller when gravity seems to have been switched off, are highlights of the show.
How did Steiner discover aviation? “By coincidence: an acquaintance of mine, Kurt Zinnhobler, is a flight instructor – and he made flying attractive to me. I flew with him in 1998 and not long after, I completed the PPL course“, Steiner recalls, whose career then proceeded to take off. In 2001 he bought a 4-seater Piper Archer.
The following year, the Upper Austrian did his aerobatics licence in a double-decker and bought the 220 Hp „Pitt S1S“ aerobatics plane from national champion Walter Egger from Wels. In 2009, Steiner, the owner of a car dealership primarily focused on VW and Audi, purchased the ultimate flying machine: the Staudacher S600.
The 36- year old specially travelled to Los Angeles, in order to bring the 370 Hp „rocket“ whose top speed reaches 380 km/h, back to Europe. „My technical adviser Heinz Klima and I fully adapted and painted the S600, making it the superb aircraft that it is,“ relates the father of one (Martin, 1 year old) proudly.
Meanwhile Richard and his fire-red scalaria aircraft, which exposes him to centrifugal forces of 12g to minus 12g during its repertoire of tumbles, spins or Lomcevaks, are the stars of the sky.
